Overview

Legend Acheron AlgreenEX™ is a professional freshwater algae control solution formulated to manage and suppress the most common forms of nuisance green algae in aquariums. Using a carefully balanced polymeric algicidal system, the formula targets algal cells directly by disrupting their cellular membrane structure, preventing further growth and reproduction while allowing existing colonies to gradually break down and be removed through normal filtration.

Legend Acheron AlgreenEX™ is ideal for aquarists seeking a reliable and easy-to-dose algae management solution. When used as directed, it helps restore clarity, maintain clean surfaces, and support a healthier aquatic environment by preventing nuisance algae from overtaking plants, décor, and aquarium glass.

Available volumes: 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L, 5 L.

Indications

Designed for simplicity and consistency, AlgreenEX™ integrates easily into regular aquarium maintenance routines, providing both corrective treatment for existing algae and ongoing control to reduce the likelihood of future outbreaks.

Green Hair Algae
Green Hair Algae (GHA)

Green Hair Algae are filamentous algae that grow as long, soft green strands resembling fine hair. They commonly attach to plant leaves, driftwood, rocks, and aquarium equipment. Under strong lighting conditions they can quickly form dense green mats that trap debris and inhibit plant growth.

This algae typically develops in aquariums where excess nutrients and strong illumination create ideal growth conditions.

Visual Characteristics:

  • Long, flexible green filaments
  • Soft texture, easily pulled into strands
  • Often forms dense clusters on plants and décor
  • Rapid expansion under intense lighting

Treatment Protocol: Dose 10 mL per 100 L of aquarium water.

Apply treatment every 48 hours for the first week during active algae growth.

The polyquat-based formula disrupts the cellular membrane of filamentous algae, weakening the structure of the strands and stopping further growth. As the algae lose structural integrity, existing colonies gradually break down and are removed through filtration.

Continue dosing weekly once algae growth has stopped to prevent recurrence.

Green Thread Algae
Green Thread Algae

Green Thread Algae consist of very fine filamentous strands that form tangled green webs around plant leaves and decorative surfaces. Compared to hair algae, thread algae are typically thinner and more delicate but can spread quickly throughout densely planted aquariums.

This algae often appears in aquariums experiencing temporary nutrient imbalance or unstable plant growth.

Visual Characteristics:

  • Thin, thread-like green strands
  • Tangled clusters between plants
  • Easily wraps around stems and mosses
  • Fast colonization of plant surfaces

Treatment Protocol: Dose 10 mL per 100 L of aquarium water.

Apply treatment every 2–3 days until visible growth stops.

The cationic polymer in the formulation targets the cell membrane of filamentous algae, interrupting cellular stability and preventing further filament development.

For prevention, apply one maintenance dose weekly.

Green Dust Algae
Green Dust Algae (GDA)

Green Dust Algae appear as a fine, powder-like green coating on aquarium glass and hard surfaces. This algae grows rapidly and can cover viewing panels in a thin green film, reducing visibility inside the aquarium.

Green Dust Algae often develop in newer aquariums or systems experiencing temporary fluctuations in nutrient balance.

Visual Characteristics:

  • Powdery green film on glass
  • Easily spreads across aquarium panels
  • Reappears quickly if untreated
  • Can make water appear slightly hazy

Treatment Protocol: Dose 10 mL per 100 L of aquarium water.

Repeat dosing every 3 days for two weeks.

The active ingredient interferes with algal cell membranes and disrupts the rapid reproduction cycle of this species.

After control is achieved, maintain stability with weekly dosing.

Green Water
Green Water (Suspended Algae Bloom)

Green Water is caused by microscopic free-floating algae suspended in the water column. These unicellular algae multiply extremely rapidly, turning aquarium water cloudy or bright green.

Because the algae remain suspended rather than attached to surfaces, the entire water column becomes affected.

Visual Characteristics:

  • Cloudy or opaque green water
  • Reduced light penetration
  • Fish and décor become difficult to see
  • Algae remain suspended rather than attached

Treatment Protocol: Dose 10 mL per 100 L of aquarium water.

Apply treatment daily for 3–5 days during severe blooms.

Water clarity typically improves within 4–7 days.

Filamentous Green Algae
General Filamentous Green Algae

Filamentous green algae represent a group of fast-growing algae species that form soft, thread-like structures across plants, hardscape, and filtration equipment.

If left untreated, filamentous algae can dominate planted aquariums and compete directly with aquatic plants for light and nutrients.

Visual Characteristics:

  • Fine green strands covering décor
  • Rapid spreading across plant leaves
  • Soft, flexible growth structure
  • Can form thick mats in high-light aquariums

Treatment Protocol: Dose 10 mL per 100 L of aquarium water.

Apply treatment every 48 hours for the first week, followed by weekly maintenance dosing.

The active polyquat compound binds to algal cell surfaces and disrupts membrane integrity, allowing existing algae colonies to collapse over time.

Directions

Shake well before use.

For routine algae control and treatment of common green algae species, dose 10 mL (2 capfuls) per 100 L (26 U.S. gallons) of aquarium water. Apply the recommended dose every 48 hours until algae growth visibly declines.

For severe algae outbreaks such as dense filamentous algae or green water blooms, the same dosage may be applied once daily for up to 3 consecutive treatments.

Visible improvement typically occurs within 3–7 days, depending on algae species and severity of infestation.

Once algae growth is under control, continue with a weekly maintenance dose of 10 mL per 100 L to prevent recurrence.

For best results:

  • Maintain proper filtration and water circulation.
  • Remove excess algae manually when possible.
  • Avoid excessive lighting or nutrient accumulation.

Important:
Do not use in aquariums containing freshwater shrimp.
Use only as directed.

Suitable for freshwater aquariums containing fish and aquatic plants.

FAQ
How quickly will AlgreenEX™ start working?

Initial effects on algae are typically visible within 3–7 days. Filamentous algae may begin to weaken and detach from surfaces, while suspended algae responsible for green water will gradually decline as the filtration system removes dead cells.

Does AlgreenEX™ kill algae or only stop growth?

AlgreenEX™ disrupts the cellular membrane of algae, preventing further growth and reproduction. As the algae weaken, existing colonies gradually break down and are removed through normal biological and mechanical filtration.

Is AlgreenEX™ safe for aquarium plants?

When used according to directions, AlgreenEX™ is compatible with most freshwater aquarium plants and does not interfere with normal plant metabolism or photosynthesis.

Will this product affect the biological filter?

No. When dosed as directed, AlgreenEX™ does not significantly impact beneficial nitrifying bacteria responsible for biological filtration.

Can I use AlgreenEX™ in aquariums with shrimp or other crustaceans?

No. This product should not be used in aquariums containing freshwater shrimp, as they may be sensitive to algicidal compounds.

Should I remove algae manually during treatment?

Yes. Manual removal of visible algae before and during treatment can significantly improve results and accelerate recovery of the aquarium environment.

Can AlgreenEX™ be used preventively?

Yes. After algae are controlled, a weekly maintenance dose helps prevent new outbreaks and supports long-term aquarium clarity.

Will the product change water color or clarity?

AlgreenEX™ does not discolour the water. During treatment, temporary cloudiness may occur as algae break down, but this typically clears quickly through filtration.

Can I use this product with other aquarium treatments?

AlgreenEX™ can generally be used alongside most standard aquarium conditioners and fertilizers. Avoid combining multiple algae treatments simultaneously.

What causes algae outbreaks in aquariums?

Algae growth is usually associated with excess nutrients, strong lighting, and organic build-up. Maintaining balanced nutrient levels and regular aquarium maintenance will help reduce the likelihood of future outbreaks.
