Carbon is one of the most crucial nutrients for aquatic plants. It is added to the tank water primarily by the injection of gaseous carbon dioxide (CO2) . Lush plant growth is relatively hard to achieve without an additional CO2 supply, especially when it comes to the more demanding plants used in aquascaping.

CO2 can be supplied via a pressured gas system or via a biological CO2 supplying system, in which the gas is produced by yeast fermenting sugar. If you want to use a pressurized gas system, make sure it is equipped with a high-quality pressure regulator and a reliable needle valve.

The CO2 supply can be controlled with a CO2 bubble counter. A permanent CO2 test enables you to monitor the concentration of CO2 in your tank at all times.

High-pressure tubing especially made for the purpose guarantees a loss-free CO2 supply of your tank. Special tube connectors should be used for distributing and laying CO2 tubing.

Various devices can be used to add CO2 to the tank water. CO2 diffusers made of glass look good in an aquascape, and in addition, they dissolve the CO2 very efficiently in the water. Inline atomisers integrated in the filtering system do not interfere with the overall impression of the aquascape and produce particularly small CO2 bubbles...
