Overview
LGND Skimmer Aquario River Glass™ is a premium handcrafted glass surface skimmer designed to continuously remove surface film, organic residues, proteins, oils, and floating contaminants from the aquarium water surface. By eliminating the biofilm layer that naturally develops in many aquariums, the skimmer restores crystal-clear water, improves gas exchange, and enhances light penetration throughout the aquarium.
Manufactured from laboratory-grade borosilicate glass, the Skimmer Aquario River Glass™ combines elegant aesthetics with practical functionality. The transparent construction blends almost invisibly into the aquascape, preserving the natural appearance of the aquarium while delivering highly effective surface filtration.
The floating intake chamber automatically adjusts to minor fluctuations in water level, ensuring continuous removal of surface film without manual intervention. An adjustable lower intake allows fine control over the ratio between surface extraction and lower water intake, enabling the aquarist to balance skimming efficiency with overall filtration performance.
When connected to an external canister filter, the skimmer continuously draws water from the surface where proteins, oils, and organic compounds accumulate, helping maintain a healthier environment for fish, shrimp, and aquatic plants while promoting superior oxygen exchange.
Directions
Install the skimmer on the aquarium wall using the supplied transparent suction cups and connect it to a compatible external canister filter using the appropriate tubing size.
Position the floating intake at the water surface and ensure that it can move freely. Adjust the lower intake chamber to control the balance between surface skimming and lower water intake. Increasing the lower intake opening reduces surface suction, while restricting the lower intake increases surface film removal.
The skimmer performs best with filters producing at least 650 litres per hour and can be used with systems up to approximately 1200 litres per hour depending on aquarium size and layout.
For optimal performance, ensure that the floating intake remains free of debris and moves smoothly as water levels fluctuate. In shrimp aquariums or aquariums containing small fish fry, an optional intake guard is recommended to provide additional protection.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures maximum skimming performance and preserves the crystal-clear appearance of the glass. Over time, algae, biofilm, mineral deposits, and organic residues may accumulate inside the glass tubing and around the floating intake assembly. These deposits can restrict water flow and reduce skimming efficiency.
Disassemble the floating intake periodically and rinse all components with clean water. Use a suitable aquarium pipe brush to remove internal deposits from the glass tubing.
For heavier contamination, soak the glass components in a solution consisting of equal parts water and unscented chlorine bleach for one to four hours depending on the severity of contamination. Thoroughly rinse all parts before reinstalling them in the aquarium.
Inspect the floating intake regularly to ensure unrestricted movement. Any accumulation of debris or calcium deposits should be removed promptly to maintain proper operation.
FAQ
What is surface film?
Surface film is a thin layer of proteins, oils, dust, organic compounds, and bacterial biofilm that accumulates on the water surface. It can reduce oxygen exchange and negatively affect aquarium appearance.
Why is removing surface film important?
Removing surface film improves gas exchange, increases oxygen availability, enhances water clarity, and allows more light to penetrate into the aquarium.
How does the floating intake work?
The floating intake automatically follows the water surface, continuously drawing water from the uppermost layer where surface contaminants accumulate.
What does the adjustable lower intake do?
The lower intake allows the aquarist to adjust how much water is drawn from below the surface. This helps fine-tune skimming intensity and overall filtration performance.
Can it be used in shrimp aquariums?
Yes. However, for very small shrimp or shrimplets, an additional intake guard is recommended to prevent accidental intake.
Will it remove all surface scum immediately?
Surface film removal is usually visible within a few hours, although heavily contaminated aquariums may require longer operation before the water surface becomes completely clear.
Safety
Handle all glass components carefully during installation, cleaning, and maintenance. Although borosilicate glass is stronger than conventional glass, it may still break if subjected to impact, twisting forces, or excessive pressure. Keep out of reach of children.
Inspect all components before installation. Do not use damaged or cracked glassware. When connecting tubing, support the glass adequately and avoid excessive force. Soft silicone tubing is recommended to minimize stress on glass connections.
The floating intake contains moving components that should remain free from obstruction. Always disconnect filtration equipment before performing maintenance. When using chlorine-based cleaning products, never mix chlorine bleach with vinegar, acids, or other cleaning chemicals.
Ensure all cleaning agents have been completely removed before returning the skimmer to aquarium service. If glass breakage occurs, carefully remove all fragments from the aquarium and dispose of broken glass according to local regulations.
