Overview
LGND BioMedia XPro™ is a premium biological filtration medium engineered to provide an ideal environment for the growth of beneficial bacteria responsible for maintaining healthy aquarium water conditions. Manufactured from high-density sintered glass spheres, BioMedia XPro™ combines exceptional surface area with efficient volume utilization, allowing aquarists to maximize biological filtration performance within a compact filter space.
The spherical structure promotes excellent water distribution throughout the media bed, ensuring that oxygen-rich water reaches a large population of nitrifying bacteria. These bacterial colonies continuously convert toxic ammonia and nitrite produced by fish waste, decaying organics, and excess food into less harmful compounds, supporting long-term biological stability.
Unlike irregular filter media, the uniform bead design allows more media to fit within filter chambers while maintaining unrestricted water flow. The highly porous internal structure provides extensive colonization space, resulting in dense bacterial populations capable of handling heavy biological loads.
LGND BioMedia XPro™ is suitable for freshwater, marine, reef, and planted aquariums and can be rinsed and reused repeatedly without losing its structural integrity.
Available Sizes: 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L
Directions
Rinse thoroughly with aquarium water before first use to remove any transport dust. Place LGND BioMedia XPro™ inside a filter chamber, media basket, sump compartment, canister filter, internal filter, or other biological filtration area where water flow is consistent.
For best performance, position the media after mechanical filtration stages so that suspended debris is removed before reaching the biological media. This helps preserve maximum bacterial colonization and prolongs service life.
When establishing a new aquarium, biological filtration requires time for beneficial bacteria to colonize the media. During this maturation period, avoid overstocking and monitor water parameters regularly.
To preserve bacterial populations, never replace or clean all biological media at the same time. Maintenance should be performed in stages whenever possible.
Technical Specifications
LGND BioMedia XPro™ is manufactured from sintered glass formed into precision spherical beads. The material features a highly porous internal structure that provides extensive surface area for bacterial colonization while maintaining excellent water circulation throughout the filter.
The spherical design allows efficient packing density, maximizing filtration capacity within available filter volume. The durable construction resists breakdown during long-term use and remains effective for many years under normal operating conditions.
Suitable for freshwater aquariums, marine aquariums, reef systems, cichlid aquariums, planted aquariums, breeding systems, quarantine tanks, and pond filtration applications.
Compatible with canister filters, sump systems, wet-dry filters, internal filters, trickle towers, and modular filtration systems.
Maintenance
Routine maintenance should be performed only when water flow through the filter begins to decrease or when excessive debris accumulation is visible.
To clean the media, gently rinse it using water removed from the aquarium during a water change. This helps preserve beneficial bacterial colonies while removing accumulated debris. Avoid using untreated tap water, hot water, detergents, or chemical cleaning agents, as these may damage the biological filter population.
Do not replace all BioMedia XPro™ simultaneously. If partial replacement is required, replace only a portion of the media at a time to maintain biological stability and prevent disruption of the nitrogen cycle.
Under normal aquarium conditions, LGND BioMedia XPro™ does not require routine replacement and can provide many years of reliable service.
FAQ
What does BioMedia XPro do?
BioMedia XPro™ provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria that convert toxic ammonia and nitrite into safer compounds, supporting the biological filtration process within the aquarium.
Is it suitable for marine aquariums?
Yes. BioMedia XPro™ is completely suitable for freshwater, marine, reef, and brackish systems.
How often should it be replaced?
Under normal use, replacement is generally unnecessary. The media is designed for long-term use and only requires occasional rinsing when debris accumulates.
Can it lower nitrate levels?
BioMedia XPro™ primarily supports nitrifying bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite. Nitrate control should be achieved through regular maintenance, water changes, plants, denitrification methods, or additional filtration technologies.
Why should biological media not be cleaned aggressively?
Beneficial bacteria live on and within the media. Excessive cleaning can remove bacterial colonies and temporarily reduce filtration efficiency.
Where should I position BioMedia XPro in my filter?
It is best placed after mechanical filtration stages where water is relatively free of debris but still receives strong and consistent flow.
Safety
For aquarium use only. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not ingest. Rinse before use. Avoid exposure to detergents, solvents, or other household chemicals. Handle carefully during maintenance to preserve beneficial bacterial colonies.
When cleaning, use only aquarium water removed during routine maintenance. Dispose of damaged or contaminated media according to local regulations. Always wash hands after handling aquarium equipment and filtration materials.
